Christopher J. Murphy III is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of 1st Source Corporation and Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of 1st Source Bank, a South Bend, Indiana-based financial institution with more than $5.19 billion in assets. 1st Source is an integrated financial services company serving Northern Indiana and Southwestern Michigan in consumer and commercial banking. 1st Source also operates internationally offering specialized financing services for used private and cargo aircraft, and nationally financing automobiles for leasing and rental agencies, heavy duty trucks, construction, and environmental equipment. The corporation includes 81 banking center locations in 17 counties, 8 Trust and Wealth Management locations, 10 1st Source Insurance offices, and 22 locations nationwide for the 1st Source Bank Specialty Finance Group.
1st Source has been identified among best performing banks in the country with over $3.0 billion in assets by Bank Director Magazine, based on profitability, capital adequacy, and asset quality. The bank has also been listed among KBW’s Bank Honor Roll of Superior Performers. And, it has been named a “Best Bank” by readers of Northwest Indiana Business Quarterly, the Plymouth Pilot News and the Post-Tribune of Northwest Indiana.
With over 39 years as an employee and 44 years as a Board member of 1st Source, Mr. Murphy was named President and CEO of the Bank in 1977, CEO of the Corporation in 1979, and Chairman in 1998. He started with the Board of the Corporation in 1972.
Mr. Murphy has a strong educational background having received a B.A. in Government from the University of Notre Dame in 1968, a Juris Doctor from the University of Virginia Law School in 1971, and an M.B.A. (with Distinction) from Harvard University Business School in 1973.
Mr. Murphy has served on numerous public and private for profit and not-for-profit boards. He is a member and past chairman of the Indiana Commission for Higher Education which coordinates planning and budgeting for higher education in Indiana. He served on the board of the University of Chicago Hospitals and Health System and is Chairman of The Medical Education Foundation which also serves as the Citizens Advisory Board for the Indiana University School of Medicine, South Bend at Notre Dame. He is a member and past chairman of the Advisory Council of the College of Arts and Letters at the University of Notre Dame and has lectured at the University of Notre Dame Law School London Program and in the Notre Dame Business School and serves on the Board of the Gigot Center at Notre Dame.
In addition, Mr. Murphy has served as Chairman and CEO of the World Presidents’ Organization and on the International Board of The Young Presidents’ Organization and currently serves, among others, on the boards of the Independent Colleges of Indiana; the Corporate Partnership for Economic Growth, and Beacon Health Ventures, Inc. He also continues to serve as an Emeritus member of the Board of the Indiana State Chamber of Commerce.
Mr. Murphy was named Business Leader of the Year in 2000 by the Indiana State Chamber of Commerce. He received the W. Scott Miller Distinguished Business Leader of the Year award in 2010 from the St. Joseph County Chamber of Commerce. He has been awarded The Sagamore of the Wabash by Indiana’s Governor and he was inducted into the Indiana Academy in 1999 and serves on its Board of Regents.
Mr. Murphy and his wife, Carmi, live in South Bend, Indiana, and have 6 children and 12 grandchildren.
Presenter - Andrea G. Short, Chief Financial Officer, Senior Vice President and Treasurer
Andrea Short began her career at 1st Source Bank in 1998 as Tax Director. In September of 2001, she was promoted to Vice President and Controller responsible for all finance and accounting functions for 1st Source Corporation, its subsidiaries and affliates. She was promoted to Senior Vice President in 2011, and Chief Financial Officer and Principal Accounting Officer in 2013.
Prior to joining 1st Source, Ms. Short was Tax Manager for a $25 billion bank and earlier an Audit Manager with Crowe Horwath. Ms. Short is a Certifed Public Accountant with a B.A. degree from Alma College, and she has completed the University of Chicago Booth School of Business’ Chicago Management Institute. In total, Ms. Short has over 30 years of banking experience, bringing knowledge, history and years of strong performance to her position.
